Overview

The eighth United Nations MoU Universities Conference is a space for staff from the United Nations language services and the MoU universities to delve into the evolving landscape of translation, interpretation, editing, verbatim reporting and précis-writing under the overarching theme of “Language Professions Embrace Change”. The development of new technologies and the rise of artificial intelligence over the last decade have made it necessary to understand the evolving role of language professionals, to redefine the skills and competences to be acquired, and to redesign training programmes accordingly.

The conference will offer an opportunity to discuss the specific changes that are reshaping professional practice and the teaching and training that universities provide to ensure that their students are equipped both to navigate the associated challenges and benefit from emerging opportunities.

Bringing together members of the MoU network and DGACM representatives, the Conference will also serve as a forum for reporting on outreach activities, sharing initiatives and best practices, and discussing ways to strengthen collaboration and to align the academic training of language professionals with the requirements of the United Nations and the changing realities of today and tomorrow.
